SynopsisThis course presents a big picture framework for understanding the current state of renewable energy technologies and their potential for further penetration into the global energy supply. Specific renewable energy technologies addressed include solar, geothermal, wind, and biofuels. Energy history, current global energy status, and future energy requirements are discussed to provide the background and economic environment in which these emerging renewable technologies must compete. Opportunities and barriers for each renewable energy technology are addressed as well as enabling technologies such as hydrogen and energy storage.
